About this event
Wednesday, October 1st EISC will have a Memorial bike ride for our friend, Ron Saboe. Ron was a longtime EISC member who died in a bicycling accident on Sunday, June 29. Ron was an avid skier and cyclist. We thought a bike ride on the Trout Run Trail would be a good way to honor our fallen member. Ron’s good friend Jim Wittnebel will lead the bike ride. We are currently planning to meet at the Decorah Trailhead and begin the ride at 10:30 am. We plan to meet at the Toppling Goliath Brewery later in the day for a toast. Ron’s son Mike is the Brew Master there. Some members are camping and some are driving up in the morning and staying in a hotel in Decorah the evening of the ride.
Kim Betts has set up the
camping at a club favorite, Pulpit Rock Campground in Decorah. Kim has reserved site #240 for 3 nights, Monday through Wednesday night. There are many hotel options for Wednesday, October 1st in Decorah, so we decided not to save a block of rooms for this trip – the hotel reservations will be on your own. I decided to stay at the Hotel Winneshiek - it is a cool old hotel; however, it is not the most cost-effective option. The rate was $159 – (w/ tax $178) for the one night. There is a Fairfield Inn, a Country Inn & Suites that are good places to stay, and there are less expensive Quality Inn, Super 8 type options. The Hotel Winneshiek is uptown, on the trail, by the restaurants and is a great old hotel. There will be more information on the ride later. There has been a suggestion to make some gesture such as a white ribbon for our helmets to express our loss. We hope to see you on this ride.
If you think you will attend the bike ride, please register so that we can keep you up to date with details.
