Greetings East Iowa Ski Club members. It was good to see and catch up with folks at the annual EISC Corn Roast at
Sally Williams’ farm. We are very fortunate to have an EISC member like Sally that has a great farm & enjoys hosting this event. We have been coming out there for many years. It was a very warm day with not much of a breeze. However, the food was great – thanks to the
Langhoff’s for the grill and to
Dale Bohrer for bringing it out. Thanks to
Ruth Van Tol for getting the sweet corn and thanks to all of those who shucked it – everyone appreciates your efforts. There was a short meeting with updates from
LeeAnn Eddins and
Kathy Takes on the Breckenridge ski trip. There are a few spots left so please sign up if you are interested. The trip will be opened up to the other clubs in the CMSC after the Sept. 19th Kickoff meeting.
Lori Huff updated everyone on the Baraboo and Wausau Midwest Ski & Adventure trips. Both trips go on sale at the Sept. 19th Kickoff meeting. Our Treasurer,
Janet Stimson reported there were 54 members in attendance at the Corn Roast. The heat may have kept the numbers down. We don’t stick around until dark and send up fireworks anymore. After my darn detached retina Sandra thinks it is a good idea for me to limit my driving after dark.
The highlight of the meeting was when our Adventure Trip Coordinator,
Rosanne Van Cura was finally able to pull herself out of the winery in Amana and give us an update on the upcoming adventure trips. (I probably should clarify that she works at the winery part time on weekends). The next big adventure trip we have coming up is the Cosmos Highlights of Ireland and Scotland Tour Sept 3rd – 15th, 2026. There are 19 fortunate members joining
Diane Scholl and Rosanne on this trip. Rosanne covered the EISC May 21-30, 2027 bus trip to the Charleston & Savannah area. Our favorite driver, Dale has put together another great itinerary for this trip. Stops on the way include the Indy Speedway/Museum, Gatlinburg, the Biltmore estate in Ashville and much more. We are hoping to finalize a couple of things and hope to have information sheets and registration ready at the September 19th Kickoff meeting. We still need a trip leader to help take names and deposits for this trip.
Rosanne’s Fall of 2027 trip is a Spain, Portugal & Morocco Nine Night Celebrity Cruise starting in Barcelona, Spain. The stops include Tangier, Morocco, Porto & Lisbon, Portugal, Seville (Cadiz) & Malaga, Spain and back to Barcelona for the flight home. We will have an interest signup sheet at the September 19th Kickoff meeting.
The last camp/bike trip of the season will be the Cedar Falls / Waterloo camping and bike ride weekend Sept 23rd – 27th hosted by
Wendall and
Jane Sents. Thanks to
Kim Betts for setting up the campers at George Wythe State Park. The bike ride will be on Saturday, September 26th meeting at Gateway Park in Cedar Falls. These rides are always a good time.
Please watch for EISC Forum updates for fun club activities. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at one of the many upcoming EISC events this summer!
