Cascade/Devil’s Head Ski Trip

Cost:
Full package – Hotel and Lift tickets $204 pp
No lifts - Hotel only - $124

The EISC low cost Midwest ski trip to Baraboo, Wisconsin is a go. Many thanks to Sandra Cummings, who volunteered to lead this trip. The board decided that since this was only a 3 hour drive (175 miles) and the cost of the bus was higher than the hotel & lift tickets, we would try a drive yourself / carpool trip this time. The club has 12 rooms (a mix of 2 queens or a king bed) in the Baraboo Best Western. The plan is to drive up to Baraboo on Friday afternoon on US 151 – again – Google says it is only a 3 hour drive. We will check into the Best Western and have fun in Baraboo. This an opportunity to ski 2 fairly close Midwest ski hills – great chance to warm up for the West trips, just enjoy the Midwest skiing experience or have a fun weekend in Wisconsin.

About 8:30 Saturday morning, after a free breakfast most of the club will head over to Cascade Mountain for a day of skiing, snow tubing or some may take advantage of the XC skiing or snowshoeing options. Cascade is a fun modern ski area with a nice lodge, newer lifts and wide runs. There is a 4:00 night session so most will want to return to the hotel before that starts and get ready for the wine and cheese party and then dinner on your own. There are several restaurant options in Baraboo or the Ho Chunk Casino is very close. Sunday morning after breakfast we will check out of the hotel & will be heading to Devil’s Head ski area. Devils Head is like a trip back in time with the narrow wooded ski runs and older style chair lifts. It makes for a fun skiing experience. The ski area is close to the Devil’s Head State Park with the great XC ski, snow shoeing and hiking trails. We plan to head back to Cedar Rapids sometime after lunch. We usually start back around 2:00, but everyone is free to set your own schedule.

The best part of this ski trip is the price. The full package with hotel & lifts is $204 pp. The cost for hotel only is $124 pp. Both are based on 2 people per hotel room. That is a great deal for a 2 day trip. This price is assuming we get 15 skiers to get our group rates. Every vehicle will have to decide a fair way to split the costs of driving up & back. We are excited to see how this trip is going to work without providing a bus ride. We like riding the bus, but need about 40 people on these short trips to make them work. We didn’t find a Trip Leader at the October member meeting in the Shores Event center and would like to thank Sandra Cummings for volunteering! We would like to apologize if anyone tried to sign up at the meeting and we missed you. Please sign up and the November EISC Members meeting at the Shores Event Center or on the Club Express Website or send the money into the PO Box. We only reserved 12 rooms and 3 have been taken already. If we have enough interest in this format, we can see about adding some rooms, but we will have to move quickly. This should be a fun Midwest ski trip!
